QLD Mortgage Broker FAQs

What services does Houses for Heroes provide?

Houses for Heroes is a Cairns-based mortgage broking business specialising exclusively in home loans for police, nurses, and teachers. We help clients buy their first home, purchase investment properties, and refinance existing loans. Our service covers everything from initial strategy and lender selection through to pre-approval, settlement, and beyond, at no direct cost to you.

How does working with a mortgage broker differ from going direct to a bank?

When you go directly to a bank, you’re choosing from that bank’s products only. A mortgage broker compares options across a wide panel of lenders and finds the one that suits your specific situation. We are paid by the lender at settlement, so there is no cost to you for our service. For frontline workers with specific income structures, having a broker who understands how your income is assessed can make a meaningful difference to your borrowing capacity and the loan you end up with.

Are your calculators accurate?

Our calculators give you a useful starting point for understanding your numbers. Your actual borrowing capacity will depend on your specific income structure, employment type, existing debts, and the lender we match you with. If the numbers raise questions or feel different to what you expected, that’s exactly what the free strategy call is for.

Do I need to live in Queensland to work with you?

We are based in Cairns but work with police, nurses, and teachers throughout Queensland. Everything can be handled remotely by phone, email, or video call, and many of our clients manage the process around their shifts without needing to come into an office.
